Yesterday, I was startled awake by my phone ringing. I say “startled” because I decided 2 years ago that I would NOT wake up to an alarm each day.
After years of having my day & night over-scheduled with alarms for getting my daughter on the school bus at 6:25 a.m. Monday through Friday, alarms for when she got off the school bus each day, alarms for daily writing deadlines, alarms for weekly writing deadlines, alarms for my talk show prep, alarms for going live on my talk show, alarms for rehearsals, alarms for client sessions.
I just couldn’t live like that anymore.
So, waking up to an unexpected ringing sound startled me. My heart raced.
Later, I thought about how we live on such a false, time-focused, over-scheduled existence, living with constant alarms. What does this do to our nervous system to stay in a state of being perpetually “alarmed”?
As a trauma-informed energy healer, this made something click for me. This is why I needed a lifestyle where I don’t have to wake up to an alarm every day. My nervous system was shot.
So, the phone was ringing. My daughter was calling me. Her first words to me: “I’m at the hospital.”
“Yeah, for my job interview. “
